Oxford Group – October Meeting

The Oxford Group meets on Wednesday 12th October 2011 at 7.30am at the Four Pillars, Abingdon.
A full English breakfast is available.
The meeting fee is £12.

This month we are starting a new DVD series called ‘Doing the Right Thing’ hosted by Chuck Colson and Robert George. The material is a six part exploration of ethics and the first session is titled ‘How did we get into this mess?’ How indeed! Maybe you can answer that question and others around the table on Wednesday, so please come if you can.

Stow Group – February Meeting

The Stow Group meets on Wednesday 16th February at 7.30am at The Fosse Manor Hotel, Stow-on-the-Wold..

We will be looking at God’s hand on our businesses through the testimonies of others. Mark Lloydbottom will be talking on “The Director You Can’t Do Without”

Mark’s 35-year professional career saw him qualifying as a chartered accountant with Deloittes in Southampton and then building three successful businesses including: an accountancy business that served over 1,000 clients in Bristol; Practice Track, which was to become the UK’s premier publishing and marketing company for accountants; and PracticeWEB, a company that provides content for, hosts and manages the websites of over 600 firms of accountants. When building these companies Mark presented his management and marketing lectures in over 200 venues throughout the UK and the US and for all UK accountancy bodies.

Mark and his wife Rhoda now lead Crown Financial Ministries in the United Kingdom. They have always been passionate about teaching others about what the Bible has to say about money, wealth and possessions. Mark and Rhoda live in Bristol where the Crown UK office is based

Oxford Group meeting – 8th February 2011

The Oxford Group meets on Wednesday 8th February at 7.30am at the Four Pillars, Abingdon.

John Kirkby is the founder and director of Christians Against Poverty, a well known debt counselling charity in the UK. He has written a book called ‘Nevertheless’ and that is the title of the talk he will be giving at our breakfast on Wednesday 9th February.
John will be sharing his inspiring story about hearing God’s call, whilst working in the consumer finance industry, to reach out to people suffering under the burden of debt.

Peter Seddon

We were sorry to learn of the recent death of the Reverend Peter Seddon. Peter was a long standing member of CBL, our chaplain and a board member. Peter’s funeral is next Wednesday 19 Jan at 12 noon at the Church of St John the Baptist Whitchurch Hill RG8 7PA.

It happens every year on the same day and every year – despite the massive build up – it seems to catch us out. Not Winterval, but Christmas. Are you ready?

Christmas presents (did you see what I did there?) a genuine opportunity to talk about Jesus; it is perhaps the one time in the year when it is okay to tell others about our faith and hope. This month Charlie Cleverly, the Rector of St. Aldate’s Church in Oxford, is going to share his heart with us about mission and redeeming Christmas.
